we are exploring the action potentials of two contrasting cells of the heart -the cardiac muscle cells and the pacemaker cells. For each of these cells, we want to explore the names of the phases, the flow of ions in each of the phases, and the reaction of the cells to the flow of ions.
Part 1: Introduction: The functioning of the two contrasting cardiac cells differ with each cell doing something slightly different than the other, so that each cell can perform its own function. In order, the pacemaker cell responds first, and then the cardiac muscle cell respond to the pacemaker cell. Each cell is doing what it does, in response to a flow of ions in and out of the cell. We call this the action potential of a cell, where each of these two types of cells, has its own phases, each accompanied by its own ion flow, but both involving the same types of ions. In essay form, describe in your own words, citing properly, the phases of the action potentials for these two cells, including the ion flow in sequence and its ion potential as the cells move from phase to phase
Part 2: Contrast of the action potential of the Cardiac Muscle Cell & the Pacemaker Cell. Compare and contrast the differences in action potentials of the two contrasting cells of the heart. Explain in your own words why it is necessary that these two cells have different action potentials. Do this in paragraph form, citing your work, and referencing.
