Instruction
You are a victim advocate responding to a sexual assault call at the hospital. The survivor is a 24 year old man who was attacked by a date whom he met online.
The assault occurred at his apartment (which he shares with a roommate). He no longer feels safe residing there. He needs safe shelter. He is also interested in obtaining HIV prophylactic medication. However, he works part-time and no longer has health insurance. Finally, he needs someone to explain his options and how the legal system works. As his advocate, you are responsible for doing that.
Your task is to explain his options, if any, for acquiring the medication (ex. local prescription assistance programs, etc.). (In the process, research what the medications actually cost.) Also, assuming the assault took place in the jurisdiction where you currently live, what accommodations are available for men at the local domestic violence/sexual assault shelter? Additionally, how are sexual assault cases processed in your jurisdiction? Finally, what other options are available to him as a survivor?
*Be sure to cite your sources (in APA form) at the end of the document. 4 pages
NOTE—REMEMBER YOUR ROLE IN THE SCENARIO. AS THE ADVOCATE, YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO PROVIDE MEDICAL INFORMATION OR ADVICE, INCLUDING ABOUT STIS AND HOW THE PROPHYLACTIC MEDICATION WORKS. (THE NURSES PROVIDE YOUR CLIENT WITH THAT INFORMATION.)
RATHER, YOUR ROLE IS TO PROVIDE THE CLIENT WITH RESOURCES FOR OBTAINING THE MEDICATION. YOU WILL BE OPERATING UNDER TIME CONSTRAINTS SINCE THE MEDICATION MUST BE OBTAINED QUICKLY.
