Rough Draft Assignment- Due April 18, via Blackboard
This assignment is for your rough draft of the final research paper. At the end of the semester you will turn in your final paper. The rough draft will help you to make changes before your presentations and before you submit the final paper. Therefore, although it is “rough” please try not to turn in partial drafts or papers that have not been proofread. It will be most helpful to you if you submit a rough draft that COULD be a final draft that way I have enough to work with in terms of providing feedback/comments/suggestions/etc.
There will be 6 components of the rough draft: First, like in most papers, is an introduction. In this section you will introduce your topic and research question, your overall approach (briefly), your contribution to the existing scholarship/why your research is important, a summary of your findings, and what the following paper will discuss.
Next, you will have your literature review. This should be about 3 pages so if have to trim your lit review down a little bit, feel free to do so. Usually, the historical/context part (“setting the scene”) for the topic is introduced here.
The third section is the “research design” and methods discussion. How did you go about the research process, what data do you use and from where, and discuss why those are the best ways to answer your question.
Fourth is the discussion of your findings: what is your tentative (because we aren’t in the business of “proving” anything at this time) answer to your research question? What did you find and what does that mean for the world/IPE?
Fifth, you will have a standard conclusion in which you summarize the paper and you can take that time to talk about future research needed, can pose solutions to the problem, or discuss other topics it can relate to.
Finally, do not forget the works cited page with citations in CHICAGO author-date style citations with hanging indentation and all single-spaced, in alphabetical order by author’s last name.
