Instruction
OVERVIEW: The literature review is a key element of any and all good research endeavors, and your success with literature reviews is predicated on your practice of the craft.
PROCESS: In 4-5 (double spaced pages), provide a literature review that outlines the "state of the field" of your research topic. The review should include 5-7 sources, should evaluate, analyze, and discuss the relevant, most cutting edge published research on your topic. To properly do so, the review should synthesize the research provided (i.e., the student should show how these works evaluated shed light on the research topic of the student). The literature review should demonstrate three skills:
1. The ability to search for relevant sources and information;
2. The ability to choose key and reliable published works; and
3. Your capacity to identify and compare/contrast main arguments and research methods (especially the established research vs. your own research).
In other words, show me that you what the experts in both of your areas of study have already said about your topic, what is missing from the debate, and most importantly, how your original research project will help to advance the discipline.
NOTE: Be sure you have reviewed the lecture on this topic!
The paper must utilize the style guide you chose at the start of the semester (e.g., MLA, APA, CMS, etc).
