Instruction
UNIT 3 This unit is a bit more difficult and challenges the student to invest some of their time in reflection. There are two essential processes that nearly every individual goes through; the socialization process, and the professionalizing process. Currently, you are in the professionalization process as part of this course. For a police or corrections officer, the path looks like this:
Socialization process--this process includes the values we have learned from our parents, brother, sisters, aunts, uncles, school, etc. After we attain the age of majority, we begin to think about our professional lives; this means that we professionalize through college or a training academy. For police officers and corrections personnel, they are also involved in the socialization process whereby they learn how to become part of the group they are now affiliated with. This happens again when the recruit who has graduated from the academy is sent to their first assignment. This should be a very thought provoking unit.

UNIT 4 In this unit, the student will be exposed to what is known as a performance gap. This is very important in all organizations because this is where training and supplemental training comes into play. Organizations use what is known as a Training Needs Assessment to figure out what the problems are, how to fix the problems, and then assess the effectiveness of the training used to fix the issues. It may be a very good idea to search back and review the S.A.R.A. Model to understand more fully all of the concepts in this unit.
