As you write your paper please include the following topics:The individual identified as having a disability. What is the diagnosis? What approach to treatment is used? Is the family involved in their treatment? To what extent? Family Dynamics. You should discuss all family members, this includes family members who are relevant to the individual but may not be blood-related. What roles do family members have? How do they interact and relate to each other? Who/what is the identified problem?Societal Attitudes. What are the societal attitudes towards the individual with a disability and their family that are displayed in the book? How do you know this? Think of all the institutions(school, work, medical, legal, etc) characters interact with. Intersectionality and Culture. What is the culture/s within the family? What aspects of identity have you learned about various family members? How does this impact the individual and the family? Rights. Are the rights of the individual with disabilities respected within the book? Are they respected by the family? By outside institutions? Does the individual with disabilities have to be an advocate for themselves?Meta. In this section, you are stepping outside of the characters and considering what the book itself means for our society and our understanding of disability. Discuss what messages this book conveys to the audience about disability. Consider some of the patterns we have discussed throughout the semester if you are unsure where to start (for example, sympathy porn, disabled individual as a motivator, etc). If you are unable to discuss one or more aspect of a topic due to it not being included or discussed in the book include that and discuss why and what it means that it was omitted. You must cite the book you read and any other sources used. Your paper must be in APA format. Your paper must be 5 pages long, not including cover page and references.
