You should answer 4 of the following 5 questions using the litterature and reliable sources. It should be 6-8 pages in total, about 2 pages/question. It should be written in 12pt Times new roman with 1,5 blankspace. The litterature should be reffered in the following way: in the text followed by (Penner, Discovering the buddah, s. 52). And other sources should be reffered in the same way. When you answer the questions: - Use correct terms throughout the entire text. - Reffer to texts when it is possible. - Write the year when it is needed. - Compare the different theories and concepts, not just an simple answer. - Clarify concepts 1. Within hindusim and buddhisn there are several keyconcepts. 3 of these are karma, dharma and samsara. Describe these concepts and discuss how they relate to each other. Also discuss possible similarities between the concepts meanings and/or usage within hinduism and buddhism. 2. Within todays hinduism one can find the biggest streams within the bhakti tradition. What does bhakti mean? Which are the 3 biggest streams or mainbranches within bhakti? Show some of the main features within these branches and discuss similarities/differences amongst them. 3. Describe the main features in Buddhas life as described in the buddhistic tradition and exemplify with the help of records (i.e Penners Rescovering the Buddha). Describe some central buddhistic lessons/teachings that are illiuminated and exemplified in this life story. Lastly, discuss which conclusions one can make from the relation between the storys of buddhas life and his teachings. Motivate your answer. 4. ”Hinduism is not a missonary religion but buddhism is”. Is this statement true? What does it mean? Which causes can you see of this? 5. Buddhism is gaining an all bigger role in Sweden today in form of 2 main groups- Asian migrants’ buddhism and the buddhism of those who have converted. How does these 2 relate to each other and what do they think of each other? In what way can their view on each other be linked to thoughts on orientalism?
