Instruction
Coaching for Compliance is commonly used by managers to get employees to "conform" and "fit into their organizational box". This Coaching assignment is NOT Coaching for Compliance but instead is about Coaching for Compassion. Using the Intentional Change Theory model, Coaching for Compassion is focused on what is best for the employee and their personal development in an effort to help them achieve their hopes and dreams.
The major elements of this assignment are as follows:
Recruit someone who is willing to participate in a 45 to 60 minute coaching session. You should select someone who is normally more positive. This can be a friend (but NOT someone in MGT 305), family member, co-worker, boss, professor, etc.
Conduct a Coaching w/Compassion session with your participant using the Coaching Guide provided here. Coaching with Compassion Guide - 2018-11-07.docxPreview the document
Feel free to edit the guide as you feel appropriate for you and the person you are coaching. The goal of the session is to keep your coachee in a state of PEA (Positive Emotional Attractor) during the session. There are likely times when your coachee/participant will drift into a NEA (Negative Emotional Attractor) state. As her/his coach your job is to transition your coachee/participant back into a state of PEA.
Record your session so that you do not need to take excessive notes. After your analysis/paper has been GRADED, delete the recording.
Write a minimum, 2 page analysis of the coaching session. Include the following in your analysis:
Brief description of the person (e.g. student, parent, friend, professional in the “X” industry)
What was the state of mind of your coachee at the beginning of the session? How was she/he feeling (e.g. tired/stressed from a long day at work, excited, etc.)?
What were high points and low points during the session? What changes occurred in your coachee's mood, tone of voice, body language? What led to those changes?
How did your coachee feel at the end of the session? Did they make any memorable comments?
How did you feel at the beginning, middle, and end of the session? What were the tipping point moments that changed the way you were feeling?
