Given what you have read about the Congress, presidency, bureaucracy, judiciary, and the making of domestic and foreign policy, give your opinion about how the United States can solve its immigration issues. Think about how policy-making by officials is affected by American political culture, our constitution, federalism, civil liberties and rights, public opinion, media, political participation, and interest groups. Back up your opinion by citing these articles and your textbook. I will be looking for your argument connected with the 14 chapters we have covered this term.
Guidance for answering:
This exam is an open-book, open-note essay exam.
You must submit your essay before 11:30 pm, Tuesday, 7 May to get credit. Aim to submit by 11:00 pm, so you have time to conquer difficulties before the automatic gate shuts. No late submissions accepted.
Type a 500-word answer. This is an exercise in succinct argument. I will deduct points, if you write over or under the word limit. Check the word count at the bottom of the Word screen, or click Review tab > in the Review ribbon, in the far left section, click the little box with letters and numbers. Your name, paper title, and references are not counted in the 500.
References: Please cite the newspaper articles above, and please cite your textbook:

Remember, you should have matching in-text and end-of-text references. For example:
(Rouse, 2018) or (Bier, 2018) or (Ginsberg, Lowi, Weir, Tolbert, & Spitzer, 2017, p.47)
Do not cut and paste from sources. Do not quote or summarize from sources without giving proper credit to those sources. Should you make these egregious errors, your work constitutes plagiarism. One instance of plagiarism in your paper means 0 points for your entire exam.
Pay attention to capitalization, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. These are necessary for good writing and for making a good impression on the reader/examiner. Use at least 1.15 line spacing (the Word default). Start early, write a draft, review thoroughly, and correct yourself before you submit.
You have discussed and quizzed well, and I look forward to reading your essays. Good luck!
