  • The prompt says she is too young to qualify for Medicare since is 55 years old. The fact that it is mentioned does not mean we necessarily mean we must fix it in our discussion. Medicare eligibility requires: i. People who are 65 or older ii. Certain younger people with disabilities iii. People with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD) She does not meet any of the conditions above. Therefore, she is automatically disqualified. She is left with other alternatives and Medicaid is her best option during the SEP. She has just lost her job, she is a mother, she is 55 yrs, and she is soon losing her COBRA benefits. As discussed in the paper, she meets all the eligibility criteria for Medicaid.
