Instruction
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is for students to practice evaluating and critiquing health information for scientific soundness and reliability based on the information learned about the scientific method and evidence-based material. Identify a Peer Reviewed article of a health topic that interests you. (Try using Google Scholar or Ebsco Host on the IUPUI Library Website) 1. Provide a citation for the article. 2. Summarize the article using the steps in Table 2-1 in the textbook. 3. Is this a case study, lab experiment, epidemiological study, or controlled clinical trial? How do you know? (Hint: the definitions of each are listed in the textbook on pg. 15) Find 3 advertisements for any product online or in print. Review the ads' components that demonstrate characteristics of quackery as described in Table 3-2 on page 41 of your textbook. 3. Provide the link to the 3 ads, or upload pictures of them here. 4. Describe the "quack" components of each of the 3 ads using Table 3-2 on page 41 of your textbook. 5. Based on the three advertisements alone, do you believe the products could do what the ad claims? Why or why not? 6. Who do you think is the intended audience for each ad? What are reasons the intended audience might believe these ads? Assignment files should include your name and be typed in Times New Roman, size 12 font, with 1.5 paragraph spacing and 1" standard margins
