For homework assignment #1 you are required to develop a deductive research plan based on a theory. Your deductive research plan should include a theory, a research question based on the theory you selected, a hypothesis (directional statement between your IV and DV), your stated IV and DV, and indicators for both. - In your answer list and label each of the following items: 1. You may select a different theory, but please be sure to identify which theory you are using in your answer. - - Theory 1: Labeling theory When an individual is labeled as a criminal, or receives the offender label from the criminal justice system, he or she is more likely to continue committing crimes in the future. The criminal label causes continued criminal behavior. - - Theory 2: Deterrence theory If the pain or punishment of committing a crime outweighs the benefits, then the individual is less likely to commit the crime. The punishment associated with the crime needs to be higher than the benefits of committing the crime. -
