Instruction
Hopefully, you have had a chance to read or at least review summaries of the Mapp, Terry, and Miranda Supreme Court opinions. Each of these has been extremely important in identifying certain rights that citizens have in encounters with the police. Each sets forth rules that police must abide by or risk any evidence seized being suppressed. All are important, but you are going to be asked which is most important, in your opinion, and why.
There were several landmark opinions from the Supreme Court in the 1960s, which affected law enforcement, three of which were the Terry, Mapp, and Miranda cases.
•In your opinion, which of these (or others) were the most important to law enforcement and why?
•Secondly, do you believe that these three cases would be decided the same today by our current Supreme Court?
