Need help writing 300 word essay due by June 22, 2019.

Date Posted: 17/06/2019
Category: Philosophy
Due Date: 21/06/2019
Instruction
PHIL 217 Midterm Instructions: Answer any two of the following questions in short, essay format. Make sure to provide references for all of your sources, in any standard referencing style (APA, MLA, etc.). Your answers MUST incorporate in-text citations for all sources used, including course materials, along with a full list of sources. Each answer is equally weighted. Each answer should be approximately 250-300 words in length. Please edit your work. Marks will be deducted for poor editing (spelling and grammar), and for lack of referencing. You should use the textbook and the online modules for support in your answer. Save your answers into a document (pdf, or docx) and submit back into the assignment area by the due date (please do NOT use pages files, as they won’t open). Questions: 1. Consider the idea of medical experimentation without consent. There have been cases in the past where people were experimented on without their knowing about it, or having given consent. The goal of these experiments was to learn about various diseases and treatments in order to improve medical treatments for all humans. Explain how Kant would view these experiments. Would he approve or disapprove of them? Explain your reasoning, including an explanation of the key points of Kant’s theory that would apply to these sorts of ethical situations. 2. When considering whether or not the death penalty is a morally justifiable punishment for certain crimes, a Utilitarian must weigh out the possible harms and benefits for all those involved. If we imagine a case where the criminal is certainly guilty of a violent crime, is unrepentant, and would probably do it again if released from prison, what sorts of considerations would a Utilitarian make regarding whether or not the death penalty is morally justifiable? Explain the reasoning that a Utilitarian would perform in analyzing such a case. 3. Is it in the best interest of a business to lie to their customers in order to obtain higher profits? How would an ethical egoist approach this kind of situation? Explain the reasoning an ethical egoist would use to decide if this action is morally acceptable. Do you agree or disagree with this reasoning, and why or why not?
