Directions For this assignment, design an educational brochure, using Microsoft Word, on police discretion and police use-of-force. As a Criminal Justice professional, you will (at times) educate the public on police practices and procedures. Law enforcement agencies commonly create and distribute brochures to educate the public. Police using deadly force has always been a controversial topic, yet it has been a public focus since technology-enabled anyone, with a smartphone, to record video. Videos of police using deadly force are posted on social media websites and commonly 'go viral'. However, these recordings rarely provide the entirety of the scenario- and are even sometimes edited to create a bias against the police. This is why subsequent investigations commonly find that the police justifiably used deadly force even though the public is convinced that the police abused their power. Use the class textbook to create the content for your brochure. The brochure should educate the public on when police may justifiably use deadly force. 1. In what circumstances is it acceptable for a police officer to use deadly force? 2. In what ways would an officer be able to show that deadly force was justified? 3. Provide a real-world example, using a news article, where the police justifiably used deadly force. Explain (in detail) why the force was justified. Your brochure should follow these guidelines: * APA format (References at the end) * Correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation * Your brochure requires the use of the class textbook with proper APA citation format (in-text citations and in the Reference page).
