(1) Instructions - You have been asked to conduct research specifically on motivating employees in public sector organizations. Specifically, you have been asked to develop and present a half-day training on employee motivation for your department head (and other seniors) colleagues. In the training, you need to provide three recommendations for how your fellow department heads and senior managers can be better in tune with the motivations of their employees. The reason for this training is that your colleagues have recently become concerned about a lack of motivation among staff in your city government offices. To complete this task, you have decided to use the course materials from this week, along with three other sources (either academic or other relevant sources related to this issue). Using these sources, analyze the topic of motivation and develop an agenda for half-day training. In addition, develop a 1 to 2-page document that provides details of the agenda. Include in this document content from the readings. At the end of the training, clearly, offer three recommendations to your fellow department heads about how they can better consider the motivations of city employees. (2) Instructions - Suppose that the human resources director of your city stopped into your office one day. She expressed concern about the use of volunteer interns across the city government offices. With a university nearby, several interns each year are hired, especially during the summer. They are not paid by the city, though some interns, fortunately, receive financial support from other funding bodies or internship fellowships (these are not funded by the city). The human resources director wants to take a proposal to the city manager to discuss this issue because she is conflicted about the city’s policy not to pay interns. She asks you to brainstorm with her concerning three possible proposals to share with the city manager about how this issue can be resolved, at least in some way. You both know, however, that the city’s budget is very tight. In a paper, summarize the problem, provide three plausible solutions, discuss the impact of these solutions, and then recommend a solution that the human resources director will suggest to the city manager. Be sure to address the following: •Write an introduction paragraph. •Summarize the problem in the case study. •Provide three plausible solutions to the problem. •Discuss the impact of these three plausible solutions. •Recommend which solution you suggest should be implemented and articulate reasons for your recommendation. •Write a conclusion paragraph.
