To counter our tendency to use our own culture as the standard by which we judge other culture , we can practice cultural relativism; that is, we can try to understand a culture on its own terms. This means looking at how the elements of a culture fit together, without judging those elements as inferior or superior to our own way of life. With our own culture embedded so deeply within us, practicing cultural relativism is difficult to do. it is likely that is seems strange to you to think that the dead need money and wrong to you for matadors to stab bulls to death in front of joyful crowds that shout "Ole!" If we practice cultural relativism, however we will view both giving money to the dead and bullfighting from the perspectives of the cultures in which they take place. It will be their history, their folklore, their ideas of mortality and bravery and sex roles that we will use to understand their behavior. You may regard bullfighting as wrong, of course, particularly is your culture, which is deeply ingrained in you, has no history of bullfighting.
Like material culture, neither custom is 'right.' People simply become comfortable with the customs they learn during childhood

Cultural relativism is an attempt to refocus our lens of perception so we can appreciate other ways of life
SECOND PART:
While reading about the culture of the Nacirema, I was able to see and realize the resemblance between the many cultures of the world. Due to the differences in the upbringing of many and the different circumstances that people had to adapt to, there are many different ways as to how people resolve problems today. The result of these different environments is the variety of different cultures we have today. One of the many rituals that the Naciremas had was their mouth-rite ceremony. Different from the oral care methods we use today, the Nacirema inserts, "a small bundle of hog hairs into the mouth, along with certain magical powders, and then moving the bundle in a highly formalized series of gestures"(Miner 89). Although the methods used by the Nacirema and the methods we would traditionally use are completely different, both methods are ultimately for the same purpose.
From doing this exercise, I was able to gain a broader understanding of the differences between cultures today. Many cultures have different beliefs and various ways of resolving issues. The Naciremas are a group of people residing in North America between the Canadian Cree, the Yaqui, and Tarahumara of Mexico and the Carib Arawak of the Antilles.
Reading the text on the Nacirema, I am able to look at the culture of the Nacirema through a cultural relativist point of view because to the Naciremas knowledge and beliefs, their methods and rituals are proper and most efficient. Simply because the Naciremas nonmaterial culture does that match those of another culture does not mean a specific method is correct. "Like material culture, neither custom is 'right.' People simply become comfortable with the customs they learn during childhood"(Culture 36). There are also many differences when it comes to material culture. An example could be the use of utensils such as fork and chopsticks. Western and European cultures that are accustomed to the use of forks and knives may find it unnecessary to use chopsticks which are more commonly used in Asian cultures.
Why go through the process of learning how to properly hold and use chopsticks when you can effortlessly eat food with forks? I believe learning to appreciate certain aspects and methods are important to have when exploring different cultures. That is also why it is amazing to travel around the world and experience diverse cultures and experiences you are not able to have elsewhere.
Use theories and supporting evidence to explain how and why you agree or disagree.
