Essay 1 Prewriting
The purpose of this assignment is to launch you into writing paragraphs for your Essay 1 working draft and to give you an opportunity to receive some feedback on your writing.
First, please view the IICCEE Guidelines page for tips on how to get more mileage out of your quotes.
You might also review the Essay 1 Video and PPT for guidelines on integrating quotes into your own sentences.
Then, revisit your Library Research Assignment, where you were asked to find credible/scholarly sources and quotes from those sources.
Write 3 body paragraphs for Essay 1
For a 1,250-word essay, you should probably aim for at least 5 well developed body paragraphs. For this assignment, you'll make progress towards that goal by writing and submitting three body paragraphs for Essay 1. Please observe these guidelines:
Each paragraph should be focused on one of the following goals:
Explain the details of the problem (for example, who is affected, who is responsible, how the problem occurs, or where it occurs)
Explain effects of the problem
Depict various viewpoints in conversations or debates surrounding the problem (you don't have to remain disinterested -- you're relaying a problem, so if you depict the views of an entity that opposes your argument, you can respond by showing how those views are limited)
Label each paragraph so that I know whether the paragraph is focused on discussing the problem, effects, or debates. You can decide what kind of paragraphs you want to write (e.g., you can write 2 paragraphs on the problem and 1 paragraph on effects... or you can write 1 paragraph on the effects and 2 paragraphs on conversations), but each of your paragraphs should have a specific purpose.
Each body paragraph should incorporate at least one credible source. I encourage you to integrate the sources/quotes you found for the Library Research Assignment, or you can integrate other credible and/or scholarly sources (including multimodals). Apply the IICCEE Guidelines to each quote in each body paragraph.
