Instruction
1. Read the following in Chapter 4: "The Body" pgs. 91-96 "The Enigma of Beauty" pgs. 101-107 "Bottoms Up: Why Butt Lifts are Big Business in Parts of Africa" pgs. 107-108 "Expanding the Theory of Shifting Erogenous Zones to Men's Tattoos" pgs. 109-114 The plethora of distinct cultural ideals about what is beautiful can muddle the definition of beauty and cause gaps between cultures. This leads to stigmatizing certain practices as foreign and ugly as different cultures define beauty in their own way. How do you describe beauty? List the cultural and historical examples of beauty you read about this week especially from the article "The Enigma of Beauty." 2. No Regrets Activity: Talk to three friends about their tattoos. Do they have any regrets about getting them (it)? What do their tattoos mean to them? Submit a summary paragraph of what you learn. 3. Watch this video: Enough with the Fear of Fat: http://www.ted.com/talks/kelli_jean_drinkwater_enough_with_the_fear_of_fat#t-724957 Write a summary of the key points Kelli Jean Drinkwater makes about bias against overweight people and her perspective about what needs to change. Share your personal thoughts about the video content.
