Overview This project requires you to critically analyze and evaluate a music video of your choosing, ultimately making an argument about the significance of the video in a specific context (e.g., genre, historical period, political commentary, entertainment, etc.). As part of your analysis, you will also need to engage Jace Clayton’s Uproot (CH 6&7) as a secondary source. Final Draft • The final essay should be your best 1,300-1,500 words of thesis-driven analysis and evaluation. • In academic writing, analysis means deconstructing the text to see how it works; evaluation means to make a judgement based on analysis. • You will need to follow MLA guidelines as you format your paper for submission. • You should maintain a formal tone throughout your essay (i.e., think academic text—no first person, no contractions, no sentence fragments, etc.). • You should have two sources: the selected music video (and lyrics, if you like) and Uproot.
