Instruction
To stimulate your thinking regarding life after UMBC, you are asked to choose a path.
Path 1: Graduate School - In choosing this path, students are encouraged to not only consider their program of study (i.e., area of interest), but also their eligibility and preparation for admission into graduate school (i.e., master's, doctoral, or professional school). Utilizing the information in their Dunn & Halonen book, students taking a path to graduate school are required to consider and prepare the following:
A web link to the listing of application requirements for one (1) graduate school program of choice in the student's preferred area of study. This should be a direct link to the program's requirements and should provide clear expectations for application and eligibility.
Curriculum vitae, or CV, an item that typically accompanies the application for graduate programs. A sample format of a CV is provided for you in your text and Dr. Knight's CV is available in the Syllabus tab of your Blackboard portal. Students are strongly encouraged to have their CVs reviewed by Career & Internship Services Center (CISC) staff, in building IV; but, it is not a requirement.
Rationale for two to three (2-3) letters of recommendation (i.e., a critical component of the graduate school application). Students must submit a statement indicating at least two (2) FACULTY members (e.g., either at a previous institution or at UMBC), who would likely write letters of recommendation on the student's behalf. Students must justify why these two faculty members would best serve this function for the student's application, and they must provide detail as to the nature of their relationship with the respective faculty (i.e., in what capacity did they know you, for how long, etc.). For full credit, students must include at least one (1) paragraph per faculty rationale.
