THE MEDIA LOG/REFLECTIVE PAPER INTRO:
In this course, students will view the various mediums for hard news stories (Television, Radio,Newspaper, and Magazines), Students will keep an individual media log, in Microsoft word.There should be a minimum of 5 entries in the semester; the 5th and last entry will be both usedas a written entry and also videotaped from a smartphone and turned in separately on the homepage – on a separate link which I will share by midsemester under announcments. Students willalso analyze the value of each medium (TV, RADIO, NEWSPAPER, MAGAZINE, INTERNET NEWS) as well as reflect on different hard news stories on the various mediums, and considerusing the information learned when they create their individual media log. In Microsoft word, you will keep a media log. You must write in it 5 entries, detailing a particular news story. The 5th entry will also have an oral component (please see syllabus). For example, if you read a newspaper, magazine, heard the radio, read on the internet or watched news on TV, pick one particular story, mention in 75 – 100 words, the facts you understood from the news story, the type of mass communication news you were exposed to (TV, RADIO, NEWSPAPER, or MAGAZINE), identify the source (CNN, The New York Times, or Time Magazine), the date of the information, and what you learned from a specific form of mass communication news. You must view news in all formats – newspaper, magazine, radio, TV, and internet news.
