Overview: This project requires you to make a well-reasoned argument based on the critical analysis and evaluation of a language-based issue of your choosing ( preferred topic will be the development of accents) . You will need to use at least two sources from the four attachments. Final Draft: • The final essay should be your best 1,400-1,500 words of thesis-driven analysis, evaluation, and argumentation. • In academic writing, analysis means deconstructing the text to see how it works; evaluation means to make a judgement based on analysis. • You will take a strong stance on that issue (i.e., your opinion/position) • You will need to follow MLA guidelines as you format your paper for submission. • You should maintain a formal tone throughout your essay (i.e., think academic text—no first person, no contractions, no sentence fragments, etc.).
