introduction: Provides a sufficient preview to the topic of the paper and the major points included in the paper. Conclusion: Is logical, flows from the body of the paper and reviews the major points in the paper. (Note: A conclusion to the paper is required. This is not part of question # 5) Mechanics: Grammar, spelling, APA format, appropriate use of headings 1 Identify and discuss two themes present in the book. Include specific examples from the book to illustrate your points. 2 Describe the evolution of mental health care put forth in the book. What are the parallels to the evolution of physical health care in America? Is there a point in time where mental and physical health care diverged? How? 3 Historically, the beliefs and values of the majority of Americans have helped shape the U. S. Health care system. Is this true for the mental health care system? Do Americans hold different beliefs and values when viewing physical vs. mental health care? Give examples. 4 Whitaker is critical of the evolution and use of pharmaceuticals in treating mental illness and their potential role in contributing to the rising rates of disability. Is this criticism warranted? Do we see similar criticisms of medications used to treat physical health conditions (diabetes, heart disease, chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, etc.)? Are there any differences in how medications are developed for mental and physical health conditions? 5 Does Whitaker write a balanced account of mental health history? What are his biases, if any? Does his status as a journalist contribute or detract from the validity and accuracy of his work? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the book? You must use at least 8 references to the book indicated by page numbers at the end of the relevant sentence or paragraph. Excessive grammar and/or spelling errors or missing references will negatively affect your grade. Papers must be six to eight double spaced pages, 12 point font with 1” margins. Include a cover page with your name, date, assignment, and class/section. Include page numbers with your last name in the upper right-hand corner of the content pages. If you include other material in your paper you must use APA style for in text citations and include a reference page. External sources are not required.
