The term paper will be a minimum of 7 pages, typed, double-spaced excluding the reference and title pages. The paper will reflect college level research and style. References will be noted in APA style. The paper will be arranged in typical research format including an introduction or abstract, body and conclusion. . The topic of the term paper is a penal system, correctional institution, correctional facility or an Inspector General’s Report on a condition at a facility or detention center. Your paper should be divided into 4 major sections. The first section is the introduction. This is merely 1 paragraph that gives the reader an idea of the substance. The next section is the Discussion. In this section you will discuss at least the following; name of the prison, location, when constructed, level of the prison, population, demographics, warden, inmate to guard ratio, shu, disciplinary issues, gangs (type), death row, executions, type of executions if applicable, last execution performed if applicable, riots, and disturbances. Disturbances and riots provide an introduction into the 3rd section, which is Law. This section discusses any lawsuits against the prison. You need at least 3 court cases in this section. Here, you will list the case. For example; United States v THE STATE OF ALABAMA and THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS, including the date. In your own words, provide the substance of the case and the outcome. After each case, you will discuss how the case affected operations in the prison. Examples are more guards, better programs, no executions, no extended time in solitary confinement etc. The last section is the Conclusion. This is the section where you tie the information together and provide a synopsis of the paper. For example, this research paper discussed XXX prison and various aspects of the prison. Remember, do not cut and paste any part of your paper. When you provide information, such as a statistic, ensure you provide a reference. For example, the population of XXXX prison is 2,142 (ADOC, 2019). This is incorporated in the body of the report. The reference page should reflect the reference that is in the body of the paper.
