What is the extent of poverty in the United States? Who are the poor in terms of race, ethnicity and gender? Additionally, describe the difference between absolute and relative poverty and how these concepts apply to poverty both in the U.S. and globally?

Question #2 (worth 30 points)

Sociologists point to ways in which family life reflects not just individual choices but the structure of society as well. Provide three examples of how society shapes family life.

Question #3 (worth 30 points)

From a structural functionalist perspective, why is schooling important to the operation of society? From a social-conflict point of view, how does schooling reproduce social inequality in each generation?
