Task: A. Contact the specific school staff member, teacher, or administrator at the location of your school placement who supervises your pre-clinical experience (PCE); arrange to teach a phonics lesson or other word identification lesson during a 30- to 40-minute session with an elementary reading class or small group. Note to BASP Majors: At least one of the students you work with in this task should have exceptional learning needs identified in an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Note: You will need to meet with the classroom teacher beforehand to determine the focus of this phonics lesson. If you have not yet received confirmation of your PCE placement, contact your mentor before proceeding with this task. B. The classroom teacher must observe your instruction and sign the `Summary Task List.` (Forms appropriate to your program are located under Available LRs for the EIT 4/5 on your AAP. The `Summary Task List` form for the special education program is located under Available Learning Resources for the ELT 4/5 on your AAP.) Once you have completed all pre-clinical tasks and received the signatures of the cooperating classroom teachers and principal, make a copy for your own records and submit the form to WGU Office of Field Experiences per the instruction on the `Summary Task List.` C. Design an original lesson plan (using the attached `WGU Lesson Plan Format`). Include the following: 1. Design an original Making Words Activity for elementary-aged students, making sure that you follow all five steps. (See the attached Making Words Activity for instructions.) 2. Include a provision for diverse learners in the plan. 3. Include a technology component in the plan. D. Seek feedback on the lesson from the classroom teacher and make adjustments accordingly. E. When you use sources, include all in-text citations and references in APA format.
