Instruction
Objectives of this assignment are to:
1. Apply the theoretical knowledge about medical surgical disorders and the drug treatment to actual clinical practice.
2. Compare and contrast expected presentations of the disorder and use of pharmacotherapeutics with the disease and the drug treatment used in an actual client case.
3. Critically analyze the pathophysiologic and pharmacotherapeutic components of an actual clinical case presentation.
4. Synthesize knowledge gained about disease and the drug treatment by creating an appropriate case study of a selected disease process and drug treatment.
5. Improve critical thinking and communication skills through writing and developing a case study.
Guidelines for writing a case study: This must be done individually.
1. Choose (1) disease condition studied in this course (NR325) from weeks 1-3 and write a case study based on an actual client you cared for during the NR325 Adult Health clinical rotation, or base it on a disease topic discussed in class. You must include all of the components listed in step (6) of these guidelines for this case study.
2. You must protect client confidentiality in the case study. Names or initials will not be used, nor will other identifying information such as the health care facility or city, among others. Client’s age, gender, and race may be included.
3. The case study must be submitted to the Approved Clinical Make Up assignment drop box in Canvas by the due date. THIS ASSIGNMENT IS DUE 11/27/2019 by 11:59 pm EST. NO EXCEPTIONS.
4. Students are required to support research material on your chosen disease process with appropriate citations using current APA format. Resources must include at least 3 current nursing journals published within the past 5 years.
5. Include a title page, table of contents, and a reference page.
6. The case study will include the following components:
• Demographic data (protecting confidentiality)
• Pertinent past medical history and current diagnosis
• Clinical presentation: Signs/symptoms, physical findings upon assessment
• Description of medical diagnosis (including pathophysiology & nursing needs) (In this portion you will cite your research sources).
• Lab and diagnostic test results with rationale
• Pharmacotherapeutic treatment with rationale
• A table listing expected and actual presentation findings, lab/diagnostic studies, and drug treatment based on pertinent past medical history and current diagnosis.
• Care plans will include:
o Prioritized nursing diagnoses (one risk, one priority, and one psychosocial diagnosis-a total of 3 nursing diagnosis.
o Goal statements (short term and long term)
o Minimum of 4 nursing interventions with rationale statements
o Evaluation statement of short term goal
• A minimum of 5-typed pages is required. This does not include the title page, table of contents, abstract, or reference page.
Please do not apply for this assignment if you are not prepared to write it all quickly and by the end of the day.
