Instruction

Describe ADHD, the symptoms and effects of the disorder as well as treatments available that are currently available. Also use statistics to show trends and effectively explain how wide spread or how rare the issue is.

The Project
The primary objective of this research paper is to provide you with the opportunity to isolate a specific research topic, to collect data, and to report the data using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. The data can be obtained using the Internet (except for Wikipedia) and GALILEO. DO NOT USE WIKIPEDIA!

The purpose is twofold. First, you will identify a topic, find data about the topic, and use Excel to summarize that data. By doing this, you turn data into meaningful information. You then write the paper using Microsoft Word and produce a presentation about the paper using Microsoft PowerPoint. You should be able to demonstrate the ability to use Excel to effectively communicate and support your ideas. In essence, you take the data, create tables and graphs in Excel, and include the tables and graphs in the presentation.

The Project Requirements
• Content borrowed from other sources must be correctly cited and referenced. You cannot copy word-for-word any content, even if you enclose it in quotation marks. This paper must be written in your own words. Refer back to the syllabus, the policy on academic misconduct. Do not plagiarize.
• I expect well written sentences, with spelling and grammar checked, and papers that are formatted properly.
• Presentations will be graded for degree of original work, depth of topic, content, organization, language and style, the use of Excel, and overall quality. A grading rubric will be used to evaluate this assignment and will be posted in the Key Course Documents folder on the course Web site.
• There are three parts to this project. 1. The research paper and the presentation are worth 10 points of your total course grade.
1. Project Paper: The paper expands on the details of the project topic and presents the results with tables, graphs, and charts created using Excel. The point of the paper is not just to write a paper -- it is to show that you can effectively use Excel to add substance to your written communications.
• Tables, figures, and graphs can be appendixes to the paper as typical with APA format - OR you may include within the text if you feel it gives a stronger message.
• The paper should be Times New Roman 12-point font, double spaced.
• The last page of the paper includes a list of the references you used (see the Reference List Instructions on the course Web site for citation and reference formats).
• The paper should be 1 to 2 pages in length, not including the title page, tables, charts, graphs and the references page.
• The paper is supporting information to enhance the presentation or an executive summary of your information.

1. Project Presentation: Using PowerPoint and present your research, including the Excel tables, graphs, and charts.
• Along with the written paper you will be required to submit a PowerPoint presentation and/or YouTube video demonstrating the ideas in your paper. The PowerPoint presentation must be professional and contain 11 to 25 slides or 4 to 10 minutes of meaningful relevant video and/or audio.
• The presentation should use research from at least FOUR reliable credible sources.
• The presentation should contain at least 5 meaningful graphs, charts, or tables.
1. The graphs, charts, or tables must be easy to understand the information conveyed.
2. At least 2 graphs, charts, or tables must be created by you using Excel. The other charts could have been created by your source as long as they are properly cited.
• Use the notes functions, animations, narration, or any other multimedia ideas to communicate your ideas.
• You are required to make the presentation rich in multimedia to effectively communicate your ideas and thoughts.

1. The PowerPoint slide show should advance automatically.
2. The slides should be short bullet points and your narration should elaborate on the bullet points. Do NOT use large blocks of text unless it is a direct quote that adds to the effectiveness of the presentation.

3. Be sure to leave tables or charts on screen long enough for the audience to view the information presented and understand what they are looking at.

• The presentation will be shared with the class for comments.
• The presentation should use relevant graphics to keep interest in the presentation and reinforce your ideas.
• The graphs, charts, or tables should vary in style.
• The graphs, charts, or tables should support the overall idea of your presentation.
