You are required to read and react to Dr. Kay Jamison’s book, An Unquiet Mind (see above for detailed information). This paper will be between 4-5 pages in length, double-spaced lining, Times New Roman, 12 point font, with 1-inch margins. A successful completion of the paper will involve a) a brief summary of the book (no more than 1 page), b) discussion of some of the major issues Dr. Jamison addressed in light of course materials and readings, and c) discussion of your own thoughts and ideas associated with the book (e.g., whether and how Dr. Jamison’s story changes your perception of mood disorders and/or help to build your knowledge of the disorders). You could include some or all of these ideas in your paper (THIS LIST IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE): Mental illness and stigma Course/consequences of the illness Nature of mood episodes Dr. Jamison’s frequent use of the word “madness” How it relates or may relate to what you have learned about mood disorders New questions that her memoir sparked about mood disorders
