• Three writing prompts for assignment: Must be MLA format 1 page for each prompt total 3 pages. Times roman new double space, I” margin a header with author's last name(I will add the name) and page number one-half inch from the top of each page. Name of author, name of professor, title of course,(I will add) date of paper on the first page of the paper.
1)Use the death of your uncle and try out the Sanders technique. Think of an object that is physically separate from him, but which represents this person ( please use his bike as object). Take five minutes and write a descriptively. Just try to remember as much about the object as you can, focus on the detail Now step back and reflect on these details. What does this object represent and how does it help evoke the lost person?
2) Now use Doyles technique. Describe the object (his bike) or some part of the object as factually as possible. You may even want to think of yourself as something of a scientist in this writing prompt. Write for five minutes, You may want to think of yourself as a practicing metaphor here or more specifically practicing synecdoche. Now step back and reflect on these details. What does this object serve as a metaphor for? What parallels do you see? Or think of this as synecdoche, how is this object actually a part of something bigger? How does this small part represent the whole? Another way of reflecting on this exercise: what does this object personify?
3) Try out Zeugma. Think of a verb that characterizes your uncle. Then write a series of sentences about him. Now step back and reflect. What patterns emerge? What parallels do you see? Are some of the parallels profound? Comic?
