Answering one Long Essay Question from a list of 15 questions. You will have 1:30 minutes to complete a 600-800 words essay based on those topics. I will give you the number you will need to work on. Here are some guidelines you need to use. Your essay must be Accurate and Clear: Make sure you correctly attribute theories and ideas to the appropriate philosopher. Do not misattribute background or interpretations provided in class (or researched elsewhere) directly to the philosopher. Be careful with metaphorical meanings. (Don’t state literally something that was intended figuratively.) To earn credit for an idea, you must communicate it. I understand that you are writing these essays under time pressure, and I do not expect the polish or clarity of a paper. However, sometimes I struggle to understand what students are writing. Unclear writing is often a sign of unclear thinking or confusion about the ideas in question. Clarity is critical. Always signal to the reader whose ideas you are explaining. Often students will pass from explaining a philosopher to inserting their own views without warning. Depending on the question, it may be entirely appropriate to critically insert your own views, but there must be absolutely no ambiguity about this! (If I think you are still writing about Plato’s view when you insert your own position, I will conclude that you are confused about Plato.)
