Ch. 1, 2, and 3 of Issues and Ethics in the Helping Professions provide detailed information related to the Professional Codes of Ethics and ethical decision-making for social work practice, while also considering the personal history and worldview of the social worker. The University Library readings also discuss the importance of evidenced-based practice as a means for maintaining ethical social work practice.
Choose one of the following social issues of special interest to you as you will use this topic in each of your weekly assignments:
Substance abuse
Domestic violence
Child abuse
LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered) community

Chronic mental illness
Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper including the following:
Provide a comprehensive overview of the social issue and target population.
Provide a comprehensive synopsis of the opposing views of the social issue.
Describe 2 tenets of the NASW Code of Ethics that support both views.
Based on this week's readings, describe how the personal beliefs, value conflicts, culture, and worldview of the social worker could impede the client's therapeutic treatment.
Explain how evidence-based social work practice ensures that, regardless of the client's views, he/she receives quality services using ethical decision-making practices.
Determine the appropriate role a social worker would play in working with the population. What ethical considerations could the social worker encounter?
Include at least 2 peer-reviewed resources.

Describe the importance of multicultural competence for social work practice as it relates to your selected target population and social issue.
