********This assignment is due in 8 hours *******
For this assignment, you are only required to write 2 doubled-space pages, in Times New Romans, and 12-point size of font. This is approximately 660 words.
1. Provide a summary of each piece of material (journal article, news/opinion, videos, podcasts etc.) assigned. This means you should summarize the argument and/or finding, as the case may be. Include any salient quotes you think are key to the main argument. Treat the summary as a guide so a reader would know where to turn to re-read a particular point (i.e. include page numbers in parenthesis if you want to use a direct quote from the reading to which you are responding. This does NOT mean filling the pages with direct quotes from the readings). I will take off points if there are more than three direct quotes in your essay.2. After you have gauged and summarized the material, critically discuss/synthesize them. You should also pay attention to the similarities and differences in arguments as they relate the theme of that week, and international communication in general.3. At the end of the essay and in 1-2 paragraphs, discuss the materials’ limitations— critically assess the strength of the authors’ arguments. I want to read your thoughts/opinions, and your thoughts is NOT saying: “I love the argument”, “I agree with the author” etc. Think through what you have read and ‘tear’ through it. If you disagree, for example, tell me why.4. As we will review theories of international communication (IC) in this class (and as you have started reading), you should think about specific international communication theories as you gauge the material, and where possible, apply them in writing your response essay.5. Be sure to number the pages of your whole document and verify that your response essay follows basic mechanics of writing and free of grammatical and spelling errors. By application: use a specific IC theory if possible.6. Note: A critical discussion/engagement with the materials does not mean that you just summarize. It means that you should assess the material and add your analytical voice to what the authors are proposing, opposing or arguing. You should demonstrate that you comprehend the nuances of the material by articulating how the central ideas and important details
interrelate. Your grade for the response essay will drastically reduce if you just summarize the readings or simply copy and paste the quotes from them
