Purpose: To be able to apply the concepts we have learned thus far in this Sociology 101 course and apply them to the world around you. In this case it would be print media, video or book. Tell me what you see, hear and or what sociological concepts are being implemented into the your media of choice. Task: Write a two page paper on this piece of media and relate it back to the the concepts used in this course. Your textbook is a great source of information, but you will need to get outside sources as well. Criteria: Read chapter 5 then find an article, video or any other piece of media about how communication technology (iPOD, facebook or any other tool of social media) affects social relationships and interaction between people. What kind of impact communication technology has on peoples' daily lives? How does this also affect group behavior? Your summary of the source and reaction (critique) must be at least 2 pages long. Find two sources in addition to your textbook - scholarly sources would be preferred - and have at least two in text citations. This builds upon what we have been doing, as socialization affects culture. Most socialization occurs as children in our formative years, but it continues throughout life. This affects the Sociological Imagination... I wonder how Erving Goffman would see the world today ... I definitely have some ideas about that.
