1.Eleanor Roosevelt changed the role from that of a hostess of social events, as her predecessors had, going back to the first “first lady” Martha Washington, to that where the role was able to bring attention to important social issues. She was able to use her position and influence to raise awareness of issues and voice support for the New Deal, African American freedoms and anti-segregation, equal access for women and humanitarian efforts. Additionally she was the first FLOTUS to host a press conference and the first to have her own staff working for her. Although their marriage soured after the love affair between FDR and Lucy Mercer (his secretary) there relationship continued over the years with Eleanor serving as his witness (emissary) during her extensive travels and worked closely with many politicians furthering FDR’s political agenda. Her approach to continuing to be a political influencer paved the way for what we have seen today with Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton, and Michelle Obama.
2. Toward the start of history, the First Lady was simply the wife of ruling President in America. She just served there as to smile and wave and in essence mainly be his better half. Yet, as time entered into modern world, that typical norm get changed. Eleanor Roosevelt, who was the wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt during his president-ship tenure, took greatly an open role as the first lady. Most first ladies did nothing a lot for a large portion of American history. Eleanore Roosevelt was left an extraordinary impact on numerous other first women for the future FLOTUS that took a greater amount of an open role, for instance Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, and Melania Trump. She empowered ton of social welfare projects and enactment. Basically she pointed out that first women don't in every case simply must hush up. They can change things as well.
