Project Summary: Learning Lessons (no more than 3 typed and stapled pages) A local schools tornado alarm went off and then a tornado hit the school. Children, teachers, and staff were terrified by the storm. When the school finally re-opened, the principal held a tornado drill. As soon as the tornado alarm rang for the drill, children began crying or froze in panic. The drill was a complete disaster. The principal quickly found herself under pressure from members of the school board who blamed her for the panic and unpreparedness at school. For this paper: (a) Prepare a report for the principal to present to the school board that will help the school board understand why the children are now frightened of the tornado alarm. (b) Include in bold, define, and apply to the scenario above: neutral stimulus, unconditioned stimulus, unconditioned response, conditioned stimulus, conditioned response. (c) Explain how to remember the meaning of neutral stimulus, unconditioned stimulus, unconditioned response, conditioned stimulus, and conditioned response. (d) Devise a strategy to warn the children of a tornado that does not frighten them so much. Include in bold, define, and apply the following terms to your strategy: extinction and stimulus discrimination.
