Project Summary: Analytical essay on how arabs are portrayed in american media and how does that effect them... so basicaly i need an introduction 4 body paragraphs each has a point and a conclusion i wrote a draft as just an idea of the points i want to be mentioned and i also i have some sources (but still need more) All must be APA style citation attached are the guide lines here is my draft of ideas i wanted to mention in this essay and some links. Introduction People tend to believe everything they see on TV or the Internet. Arabs since the dawn of time have been stereotyped in American media and portrayed as the villains who must be feared or the rich dumb sheikhs. Since I was a little kid, after the 9/11 incident occurred I started noticing these types of portrayals. Those portrayals are not necessarily true but are effecting the publics perception of Arabs. I decided to analyze the ways on which the American media portrays Arabs from Newspaper articles to films to real life experiences. Body 1 Arabs portrayed in Hollywood as angry villains who are blood thirsty and filled with hate. Another kind of portrayal is the Arab women who are either silenced or are belly dancers. Then comes the rich sheikh who usually is women crazy and is very dumb. Very degrading images that have been set since the 1920s. I will mention the (Reel bad Arabs documentary here). Body 2 Articles and news. Arabs have been the target anytime a crisis would happen the most recent example would be Boston earlier this year. It was assumed that the accused was an Arab automatically. The most famous example would be 9/11 and how it shook everyone in the whole wide world. Arab students in the US were all looked upon as dangerous. (Examples of students who have been wrongfully suspected because of the media) Conclusion: Media has a great influence on how the world perceives a society or a culture as a whole. There is an Arabic proverb that says the media is double-edged sword. It is safe to say that there is a good and a bad to everything. If the Arabian media had a louder voice for it to be heard there will be more to debate on but American media is dominant in this world. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/magda-abufadil/is-coverage-of-arabs-isla_b_98757.html http://www.theguardian.com/media/2006/feb/01/iraqandthemedia.tvnews1 http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/08/AR2006030802221_2.html
