Project Summary: General instructions: Papers must be 3-4 pages in length (double-spaced, one-inch margins all around, 10-12 point font). Your paper must have an introduction and a conclusion. The conclusion should briefly reiterate what you have said and provide a few concluding comments (that tie back to your thesis). Pretty much all of Durkheims work, in one way or another, focuses our attention on the processes of social integration and regulation. And one of his most famous analyses is that of the role of rituals in social life. For this assignment, use these concepts, as well as the four elements of a ritual, to analyze a ritual in which you participate during the semester. That is, this analysis may not be based on your recollections; it must be based on some ritual in which you participate during the first two months of the semester.
