Project Summary: Participate in this discussion forum after you have read the attached HBR article, the PPT on "Introduction to Strategy" and watched my video lecture. In the article from the October 2021 issue of Harvard Business Review, the authors Noubar Afeyan and Gary Pisano discuss innovation. They take the example of the Moderna mRNA vaccine among others to argue that innovative breakthroughs can be systematically generated by using a process modeled on the principles that drive evolution in nature. The two major steps there are: (a) variance generation, which creates a variety of life-forms; and (b) selection pressure to select those that can best survive in a given environment. In this discussion, I ask you to do three things: (a) Quickly summarize the main points of the article. (b) Discuss the "three mistakes" that the authors caution the firm against making. (c) Tell us if you find the argument persuasive, and include at least one point of constructive criticism.
