Use the tools and topics we have learned over the course of the quarter including: agency vs. structure; functionalism, conflict theory, symbolic interactionalism; institutional analysis; stratification (dimensions of social class), race/racial inequality, gender and media; beliefs/attitudes/behavior, macro vs. microsociology; social status (ascribed vs. achieved);Goffmans Dramaturgy Theory (status vs. roles), role performance, conflict and strain; Durkheim (Epistemological realism, social cohesion); social groups (primary vs. secondary groups, peer pressure, in-groups vs. out-groups, group size); bureaucracy; deviance and control (control theory, labeling theory, Stanford Experiment); education vs. schooling (Bourdieu, social reproduction, four functions, etc.); social transformation Here are the guidelines: Choose a recent topic from popular culture, politics or the arts.
