Project Summary: MY TOPIC WILL COVER Psychophysiological Disorders Guidelines for the Final Paper Your final paper should either be a research proposal or literature review written in APA writing style. Your topic must be related to Health Psychology and approved by me. The body of the paper should be seven full pages using double space. The other pages will include the title page, abstract, references, and possibly tables and figures. So your final paper should be at least 10 pages long - the paper can be longer. You must include at least 10 references from professional journals. You may use websites and other types of references but only in addition to the 10 refereed journal articles. Examples of sources: Professional journals such as: Health Psychology, Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, Journal of Abnormal Psychology, American Psychologist, Journal of Behavioral Medicine, Journal of Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback, etc. Professional books in your area of interest can be used sparingly. Internet references should be used sparingly and with caution! Your textbook cannot count as one of the ten references. Begin your paper with an introduction in which you briefly describe the purpose of your paper and what you will discuss. Make sure your purpose, thesis or organizing construct and scope of the article is clear. In the introduction use subheadings to organize your topics within the paper if needed for a research proposal and this is often necessary for a literature review as well. You can do a research proposal or a literature review. The following is a brief description of what needs to be included in each type of paper: Research Proposal for this course: Should include an abstract, introduction, hypotheses, methods and results sections. Your introduction should include relevant background information, critique of previous studies and how your study will add to or improve the literature and/or address problems with past studies. Use future tense. Remember to critique the studies, papers, books etc. that you read. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the information or ideas that you have researched? Include this discussion in the introduction of your paper. In other words, DO NOT just reiterate what you read or take for granted that it is true, what do you think and WHY? Conclude the introduction with specific hypotheses. The results section should indicate how you would present your data and what type of statistical analyses you would use. There is no discussion section, as you have not carried out the study yet! Your research proposal should describe: - Problem under investigation - Expected conclusions & implications - Participants: number, type, age, sex - Experimental method: apparatus, data-gathering procedures, tests - Statistical procedures that would be used Literature Review for this course: Should evaluate the current and/or past status of a topic. All possible research studies within a specified time frame should be reviewed and discussed in your paper. Your paper should include a section in the beginning on how you went about your literature review and what criteria you used in selecting research studies. You can use the subtitle "Criteria for Research Literature as a sub-heading. You should precisely indicate what type of searches you did, years reviewed, key words used and any exclusion/inclusion criteria you used in selecting studies to review. There should be no methods, results or discussion sections. You should not provide a litany of studies done. You should discuss the studies, by comparing, contrasting, and creating a summary table. Your paper should include a critique of studies done and indicate strengths and weaknesses of the research studies you reviewed. Also indicate possible or important areas for future study. Include this discussion in the body of your paper. In other words you should NOT just reiterate what you read or take for granted that it is true, what do you think and WHY? Towards the end of the paper you should have a Summary and Conclusion section in which you summarize what you found. Also include in your paper how strongly one can make conclusions and what conclusions can be made about your topic. Discuss possible or important areas for future study Your review paper should describe: -Topic in one sentence - Purpose, thesis or organizing construct and scope of the article - Sources used - Conclusions Reference should start on a new page and be formatted as follows (see APA manual for formatting references that are not books or journals): References Allen, K., & Blascovich, J.
