Instruction
Define the disease and state the health problem. These questions can help guide you: What is the cause? What organ function is disrupted? Is it environmental or genetic? What gene/protein is responsible?
B. Discuss the potential risk factors (at least 3) for the disease. Is the disease preventable or can the disease be alleviated?
Data/Results (80 points)
C. Locate source data using resources available on the Internet. Discuss the uses, strengths, and weaknesses of various data sources. (See page 3 for suggestions)
D. Summarize data on the distribution of the selected disease/health problem using tables, graphs, or other illustrations whenever possible. Briefly describe data highlights. (See page 2 for an example). We know that health factors and outcomes can differ by age, gender, race, ethnicity, ability, and sexual orientation among many other characteristics. How does
this measure vary across groups with different sex (male vs female)?
Conclusions/Discussion (40 points)
E. Draw conclusions from your data findings, trends, and comparisons. Discuss the principal gaps in knowledge (what further information needs to be known) about the distribution of the disease in order to see improvements.
