Please write your first essay using one of the below prompts. Essays will be 3-6 pages, double-spaced, APA format. Include a works cited page--cite the stories you use as well as any outside information (direct citations and paraphrasing). Attached is a sample of the first two paragraphs (intro, body paragraph one) of a student essay.
1) Paul Maliszewski's stories feature characters who try their best to be good, but sometimes fail at doing so. Using any of the stories we've read in Prayer & Parable, or any of the Maliszewski stories we've read in-class or online ("Presentation", "Okay"), find THREE instances of characters who fail at being good, or try their best to be good. You may want to discuss, in your introduction, what goodness means to you, as well as what goodness means to philosophers, Biblical characters, or any other works of art/people who discuss goodness. You can either discuss three different stories with characters who face these issues, or discuss three characters who deal with these problems--and they all might be in the same story. You can also mention characters from any of the movies we've seen (Dead Poets Society, Gattaca). (Examples: The father from "Prayer for the Long Life", Thom from "Okay", the boyfriend from "Prayer for an Answer", Vincent from Gattaca ).
