You may already have decided the reason for you to attend college is to eventually have a particular job. You may have also dreamed of earning a college education. By attending college you are on your way to achieving your goals and preparing you to either transfer to a four-year university or enter the workforce. Now is your opportunity to explore what career path may be a good fit for you.
This assignment is designed to help you explore and solidify your ideas about a particular career. It will also encourage you to use college-level critical thinking skills and use respected resources for the basis of your decisions.
In total, there are two parts to this assignment:
Career Research – Fill in the provided outline for three different careers. These could be careers suggested in your AchieveWORKS Personality Report or careers you are curious about. Your facts should come from a minimum of three reliable sources. You are required to properly list the sources in either an MLA or APA style format.
Career Paper – Pick one of the three careers from your rough draft outline and provide a complete written document that meets the rubric requirements of the Career Research Assignment Paper.

Part I – Career Research
Do the following to complete the first part of this assignment...the Research:
Download the attached Microsoft Word template for your Research outlines.
Refer to the Career Research Resources page for links to information on various careers or use research skills taught in the Library 101 lesson. Hint: You can always use to Library Chat tool (http://www.lonestar.edu/library/nh-askalibrarian.htm) to ask a librarian for assistance.
Fill out the outlines for three different career paths you are interested in pursuing. Make sure to back up your facts with credible sources and take note of the page or website where you found your facts.
Save your Word file with your name in the file title to a location you can easily access (perhaps your OneDrive account).
Submit your Word file to this assignment folder by the due date.
Part II – Career Paper
Now that you have explored at least three different careers that interest you it is time to concentrate on just one career. You will produce a college-level paper that showcases your ability to put your research findings and thoughts into written form. Review guidelines on MLA and APA style formatting from the library or Purdue OWL to help you properly cite your sources.
Do the following to complete the second part of this assignment...the Paper:
Review the rubric for how your Career Research Paper Assignment will be scored.
Write your paper including citing the sources of your research. Your paper should be:
At least 5 paragraphs (1 Introduction, 3+ Body, and 1 Conclusion) that addresses the following:
What career did you choose to research and why did you choose it?
Describe the career. What are the typical job duties?
What are the educational requirements?
What knowledge, skills, and abilities are required?
What is the salary range and job outlook?
What are some advantages and disadvantages of working in this career?
What are your personality strengths that match this career?
How does this career match your interests?
Typed in Microsoft Word
Font is Times New Roman, 12-point, double-spaced
3+ Credible Resources properly cited in MLA or APA style formatting
Look over your paper one more time to make sure you are meeting the criteria listed in the assignment rubric.
Save your Word file with your name in the file title to a location you can easily access (perhaps your OneDrive account).
