2. Read chapter 8 and Answer the following question, by contrasting Warren's view with Singer's. Pay special attention to Singer's responses to the objections listed on p. 374: Is IVF an attempt to control female fertility? Some people feel that IVF will intensify male control of female reproductive processes and may remove women from the process of reproduction altogether (380). How should this danger be resisted (381)? How would Singer view this issue? (300 words)
3. Read 473-482: Write a 300-word Discussion board post on surrogacy. Laura Purdy, "Surrogate Mothering: Exploitation or Empowerment" questions:
-Explain Purdy's consequentialist argument in favor of surrogacy. Do you agree with this?
-Explain Purdy's argument that surrogacy is not baby-selling, and that it is womb rental. Do you agree with her view that this is okay?
-What are the circumstances in which surrogate mothering is wrong, and why? Do you agree with her argument?You may want to consider the surrogacy industry in India.
4. Read pages 575-584 than write a 300 word response on the article. Examine Davis's argument that genetic counselors should not help parents conceive a child with a disability, such as deafness or dwarfism. What is her rationale? What is a child's "open future" and how is it different from Purdy's "minimally satisfying life." Should parents have autonomy when it comes to selecting that their children have certain features, whether they are considered "disabilities" or not? Is this a 'moral harm'?
5. Read 646-647 than Write a 300-word response to Brock. Please be sure to address the following question in your post: In your opinion, is there a morally significant difference between killing and letting die? In your response to Brock , explain their arguments regarding killing and allowing to die. What arguments are given in favor of voluntary active euthanasia? What are some objections to permitting euthanasia, and how does Brock respond to them?
6. read pages 663-674: Write a 300-word essay responding to Arras. Questions to consider: After reading the pros and cons, what is your view? Would the benefits outweigh the harms? Explain. What do you think about the "slippery slope" argument (554-556) - that allowing voluntary active euthanasia will lead to nonvoluntary active euthanasia? Is this a legitimate concern?

(b) What does Arras make of the killing vs. letting die distinction?
(c) What options does Arras propose in place of PAS, and how does he envision those they would work? What are the philosophical foundations or bases of those ideas?
(d) What recommendations does Arras make with respect to dying in America, generally speaking? What are the philosophical principles he uses to make this argument?
