Make sure you fully understand the concepts of the Johari Window as well as Transactional Analysis. You need to have a solid understanding of these important concepts in order to successfully complete this assignment. Will once again be applying the concepts from this module to your own experiences as a way of finding potential ways to develop your leadership skills. For this assignment, choose a current or former supervisor or subordinate and think carefully about how the concepts from the Johari Window and Transactional Analysis applies to this current or previous supervisor/subordinate relationship. Think carefully about the flow of information and communication between the two of you, and also times when either of you behaved as “adults,” “parents,” or “children” in your dealings with each other. Don’t worry, this assignment will be purely between you and your instructor so feel free to be as honest and self-reflective as you can.

More specifically, write a 4- to 5-page paper answering the following questions below. Make sure to cite at least one of the required readings in each answer, and to cite at least three sources total from the background readings in your paper: I will upload all required readings 1. Using a Johari Window analysis, what do you think some of your supervisor’s or subordinate’s blind spots are? What do you think some of your potential blind spots might be? 2. Also using a Johari Window analysis, what kind of hidden spots did you keep between you and your supervisor or subordinate? Did you suspect your supervisor or subordinate of having hidden spots? 3. Based on your answers to Questions 1 and 2 above as well as the required readings, how might Johari Window analysis be used to improve this supervisor/subordinate relationship that you wrote about in the above two answers? 4. Using Transactional Analysis, give some specific examples of when you and your supervisor or subordinate acted like “parents,” “children,” or “adults.” And be honest—we all act like “children” sometimes in the workplace. 5. Based on your answer to Question 4 and the required readings, how do you think this supervisor/subordinate relationship might have been improved using Transactional Analysis?

  • About me. I have been in the military for almost 22 years. I supervise about 55 people. I want my subordinates to succeed so I'm always giving them feedback on how there doing and where they can improve. I have a type "A" personality, so some times I can come off as a little aggressive with how I address them when my subordinates do something wrong. My parents where type "A" also and very strict. The held me to a very high standard and I got disciplined harshly when I did something wrong. They are both hard workers and prefer to be there own boss. I am like them in that aspect because one day I hope to own my own business. My parents also tend to jump the gun and issue punishment before they had all the info. I tend to do that also but where I differ is I always apologize and try to make a mends if I was wrong. Please let me know what else you need to know about me.

  • Problem Subordinate 1. She is a young female with a I don't care" attitude that been in 2 years. I often have to have her supervisor counsel her for not doing what she is told or substandard work. No matter how you address her its never her fault and she has an excuse for everything. She is also very untrustworthy and lies constantly about the dumbest things. She acts childish a lot also by how her attitude is and how she caries herself.   • Problem Subordinate 2. He is a young African American male who is friends with the above girl (she is a Caucasian female). He is often counseled (verbally and written up) also because of his substandard work and attitude. His is also very childish and does not want to follow the rules of those appointed over him. He recently had to go see the Commander for failing a required job related test. When he went in there his uniform was dirty and he looked like he did not want to be there. He quiet around leadership, when asked questions he talks quiet and usually gives one word replies. When he is around his friends he is chatty and seems to not care what comes out of his mouth.   • My commander is a condescending person. He is often passive aggressive if you disagree with anything he says. He has a "I know everything attitude" which leads to him making bad decisions at time. If you are on his good side ( which I am) he is lenient when is comes to you making mistakes. He loves to point out mistakes you made, how much he knows and where he has been. Some of his fellow officers do not like him because of attitude and how he carries himself. He the type person to talk down to you versus at you. Let me know if you need anymore info.

  • I do am a very involved supervisor. At times I can be a bit demanding and rub some people the wrong way because of the tone of my voice. I have been working on it lately to not sound so authoritative. I do listen and want feedback constantly from my subordinates. I do have a playful side with subordinates at times.
