Choose a historical disruptive technology that interests you from our conversation in Week 2. This technology must pre-date the 1940s and should not include the personal computer. I would prefer that you choose a technology that you haven’t already presented. In other words, choose a topic different from your first mini-presentation.

Instruction
Then write a traditional research paper of 6 – 8 pages. Your research should be from scholarly sources, either peer-reviewed journal articles or books published by university presses (At least 7 sources should be consulted). Outside of those 7 main sources, you may use 3 additional popular sources (websites, popular magazines etc.…). This is a research paper and I expect you to do real research not just a simple web search. I also expect you to read your sources and understand them. The essay should be a thesis driven research paper that explore the technology by: Make a case for the technology's disruptive qualities and place the technology in the context of our class discussion and the definition we've constructed around disruptive technology. (This might provide a good introduction to your essay and could be followed by an analytical thesis that answers the next set of questions) Questions to answer (the answer to these questions should form the basis of your thesis statement and be answered throughout the paper) Provide the historical context i.e. explains the time period, the major players involved, what led to the invention, and how it came to fruition? Analyze its Impact (cultural impact and the changes that occurred as a result of the tech) Explain Innovations that followed on or were built from the disruptive tech and their impact on culture and connection to the original. Explore Continued/lasting impact. To what extent is the technology still important and how is it still being used? Please note the above are meant to help you craft an argument or thesis for your paper they are not meant as topics to discuss in the paper. Let your thesis/argument you craft drive the organization and topics in your work. I expect you to address the above, but do not use them as paragraphs or as an outline for your paper. I expect an original thesis. Your paper should also include a bibliography of the 7 scholarly sources and other popular sources. If you are making direct citations from those sources a simple parenthetical citation format is fine, ie (Author, “Brief Title,” p. #)

    User_24646 | Jul 07, 2020, 23:32 PM
  • Your thesis is hard to determine and the paper lacks an analytical framework. I'd like to see a more thesis driven paper. It's difficult to ascertain what exactly you're trying to argue here about disruption and refrigeration. Its importance is unquestionable, but how did this happen, why did it happen and ultimately so what? Rather than just describing the changes explain how and why they happened. Introduction however does offer a bit of context, but it doesn't ever tell us how refrigeration is associated with disruption (just saying it preserved food isn't enough, so what? What does this preservation mean?).
    User_24646 | Jul 07, 2020, 23:32 PM
  • Your paragraphs nearly all begin with a descriptive topic sentence, and frequently you slip into description and summary just describing the subject rather than explaining or analyzing it. The point of an analytical essay is to analyze the usefulness, effectiveness and disruptive qualities of some object, in this case the use of refrigeration. Your essay never tells your reader how exactly it was disruptive. Instead you just describe the disruptive qualities (kind of) and the reader is left wondering, so what?
    User_24646 | Jul 07, 2020, 23:32 PM
  • I will revise it
