ID answers should be approximately 50–100 words. You can use bullet points if you'd like, but you MUST include a clear answer about why the term is important to the themes of our course/the history of Modern Europe. Your essays should each be around 500 words. What is most important is that you answer the question. Be sure to include a thesis/argument and relevant details/evidence to support it. I do not want just a list of facts, but nor do I want big ideas with no supporting information.

Section I: Identification Questions (20 Points): Please identity FIVE out of the following terms. In a few sentences, define the term and connect it to the larger themes of the course (explain why it is important). Each answer is worth 4 points for a total of 20 points. The Enlightenment Social Class Home front Universal male suffrage The Three Estates Volksgemeinschaft (“People’s Community”) Welfare State Section II: Essay Question 1 (40 points) How did the Dual Revolutions create modern Europe? You must describe both revolutions. Section III: Essay Question 2 (40 points) One historian calls the twentieth century (the 1900s) “the age of extremes.” Is this a good way to describe it? Why or why not? Be sure to define liberal democracy, fascism/Nazism, and Communism and give specific examples.
