Project Instructions:
The paper presentation focuses on current guidance methods and guidance techniques used to help define the social and emotional development of young children. You will analyze and critique the chosen approach as it applies to young children. You will be able to describe a variety of family characteristics that impact family behavior.
Select topic of interest in guidance techniques.
Select topic/guidance approach(es) such as “Parenting Styles”, “Spanking”, “Temperament and Guidance Techniques”, “Guiding the Special Needs Child”, Guidance with Strong-willed children”, etc….You must obtain approval from the instructor prior to beginning your research.
Paper guidelines (76% of the total points)
Paper must include a cover sheet with your name, course name, title of paper, name of instructor, and date.
Body of paper must be a minimum of 3 full typed, double-spaced pages, explaining:
How the topic influences the social and emotional development of young children
What current research says about the topic
3 or more guidance techniques relating to your topic
3 or more family characteristics that influence family behavior in relation to your topic
3 or more examples of negative adult-child interactions relating to your topic
3 or more examples of positive adult-child interactions relating to your topic
3 guidance techniques to help parents and teachers in working with this issue
3 resources parents and/or teachers can consult for additional information and help with the topic. The references must include at least one professional journal article.
Use at least 3 additional resources when researching the topic. Include a bibliography listing the 3 resources you used for your research AND the 3 resources for parents and/or teachers you listed in your paper. List all 6 resources in APA format.
Presentation
In addition to a paper you will prepare a Powerpoint presentation (14% of total points). The yellow highlighted portion of the rubric refer specifically to the powerpoint presentation.
You need to have a minimum of 5 slides and a maximum of 15 slides.
Create a one page typed handout (10% of total points) briefly summarizing the information, including the 3 resources you used and the 3 additional resources for parents and teachers. Student will provide classmates and instructor with photocopy of handout on day of presentation. The green highlighted portion of the rubric refer specifically to the handout.
